Hello, LAPT Members!

I just want to take the opportunity to say thank you for your membership in LAPT and for promoting play therapy as an effective intervention. The conference, February 10-11, 2016, was an exceptional two day learning event as well as networking. It was wonderful to see old friends and to meet new friends that were attending LAPT for the first time.

Our 2018 conference will feature Eliana Gil and we will be bringing back our sectional presentations. I invite each one of you to consider sharing your knowledge with LAPT by submitting a proposal for consideration during the conference. We are so excited to have some LAPT members who have joined some of our committees to assist with various activities that occur throughout the year. If you are interested in getting involved in LAPT and would like to serve on a committee, please contact me via e-mail. We would LOVE to have you! Please take the time to visit our website, as we are always posting exciting things happening within LAPT: .

We want to hear from you! Please reach out to us and let us know what is going on in your area of the state. Our website is a wonderful resource for local trainings, national play therapy news, and networking with other members. Please visit our Facebook page and "like" us to stay connected.

Below is a bit of information about me. I look forward to getting to know many of you over the next couple of years. If you have any questions or just want to say hi, please contact me

Laura Fazio-Griffith

My name is: Laura Fazio-Griffith

What I do for the board:
I have served LAPT as Treasurer, President-Elect and I am now President until 2019.

Why and when I joined the board:I joined the board in 2008 as the Treasurer. I was teaching play therapy at the university level and thought it would be an excellent collaboration between the university and LAPT.

I play at (where I work and what I do for fun): I am an associate professor in the graduate counseling program at Southeastern Louisiana University. I read and love to go to movies and theater.

Where I learned to play (school/trainings):My play therapy certification program was taught at the University of New Orleans. I have also attended state and national trainings.

Why play therapy: Play is the natural medium for children. Play transforms lives, young and old. My favorite play therapy book (why?): Dibs in Search of Self is such a powerful and positive attestation to how important play therapy can be in changing a family's life.

My favorite children's book: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.

My play therapy medium:I consider myself primarily an Adlerian play therapist. I love the balance between structured and unstructured play.

My favorite play quote: "Child's play is not mere sport. It's full of meaning & serious impact. Cherish it and encourage it." F.W. A. Froebel
